Concerto 0 is the first physical manifestation of Urban Pixel, a project in which decommissioned road signs become the individual pixels of monumental images conceived to be read from above.
127 real signs — unpainted, uncut and carrying the marks of their previous life — were assembled directly on the ground to form a decaying apple. From close range, the image dissolves into an accumulation of STOP signs, speed limits, prohibitions, directions, rust, scratches and faded surfaces. From above, those fragments become a single image.
The apple is deliberately imperfect: part vivid and seductive, part already deteriorating. A familiar symbol of abundance becomes an image of consumption, waste and decay.
Concerto 0 is not a scale model of a future work. It is the first field test of the Urban Pixel language: an experiment in composition, colour, material density, construction and aerial perception that establishes the method for the project's future monumental interventions.

WHEN DAYLIGHT ENDS, THE IMAGE CHANGES.
At night, the same discarded signs reveal a second existence. When struck by a directed beam, their retroreflective surfaces return light with an intensity invisible by day. Nothing is painted and no illumination is built into the installation. Light activates what was already present.
The night test revealed that Urban Pixel can exist in two perceptual states: material and weathered by day, luminous and unstable after dark.
