First Signs of Old Age depicts an apple cut open as its flesh begins to darken. A rusted knife remains embedded in the fruit, turning an ordinary act of cutting into an image of time, oxidation and irreversible change.
The title plays on the material itself: the apple shows the first signs of ageing, while the sculpture is made from a traffic sign that has already completed its public life. Pigment and translucent resin transform the decommissioned metal into bruised flesh, preserving both decay and material memory.
