FROM OBJECTS TO NUMBERS

Found Objects Numbers extends the visual language of Found Objects Font into a sequence of numerals created between 2018 and 2019. Reclaimed tools, hardware and metal components were selected for their existing curves, angles and openings, then positioned or assembled to form the numbers from 1 to 10.

As in the alphabet, the objects are not disguised. A clamp, a bicycle sprocket or a section of flexible tubing remains recognisable while acquiring a second identity as part of a numeral. Most compositions were temporarily arranged and preserved through photography, while others became fixed assemblages.

The resulting figures form an independent typographic series while remaining visually connected to the original alphabet. They were subsequently combined in dates, anniversaries and graphic compositions, demonstrating how the physical characters can function as a coherent visual language.
