Judith reinterprets Gustav Klimt’s iconic figure through painting and an assemblage of discarded domestic and technological objects.

The materials were selected not only for their colours, but for their ability to assume a specific visual role. Black electrical cables become Judith’s hair; metal can lids construct the surrounding surface; fragments of mesh, fasteners and obsolete components form jewellery, ornament and clothing. Their original identities remain visible, allowing the image to shift continuously between portrait and accumulation.

Unlike the precious materials associated with Klimt’s Golden Period, the surface is built from objects that have exhausted their practical function. Their transformation does not conceal their former use: it gives obsolescence a new visual presence.

Judith’s expression remains poised between seduction, authority and detachment. The recovered materials intensify this ambiguity, surrounding the painted body with dense, almost mechanical ornamentation. From a distance, the fragments merge into a recognisable figure; at close range, the portrait breaks apart into cables, metal and discarded matter.

The work explores how identity and value can be reconstructed through material transformation, while preserving the tension and psychological intensity of its historical reference.
