Kissing Plastics reinterprets Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss through an assemblage of discarded domestic objects, plastics and metal components.
Rather than painting each colour, I selected materials for their existing tones, shapes and textures. Remote controls, caps, gears, cables, chains and obsolete household fragments become clothing, ornament and landscape. Their original identities remain visible, allowing the image to shift between an intimate human gesture and an accumulation of manufactured objects.
Seen from a distance, the fragments merge into the familiar embrace. At close range, the figures dissolve into the material traces of everyday consumption. The work therefore moves between collective memory and domestic obsolescence: an image associated with permanence and affection is reconstructed from objects designed to be replaced and discarded.
The title Kissing Plastics introduces an ambiguity between the figures and the materials from which they are made. The work is not only a reinterpretation of a historical image, but a reflection on intimacy, artificial matter and the hidden value of what is no longer considered useful.
