Mediterranean Ride is a site-specific family portrait commissioned for a private residence.
Rather than presenting the family in a conventional static pose, Scoobafish imagines its members travelling together through a Mediterranean landscape. The road becomes a shared biography, connecting people, places and memories through movement.
Painting and sculpture merge across the surface. Three-dimensional motorcycles and scooters emerge from the panel, assembled from reclaimed plastics, mechanical fragments, metal lids and found objects. Reshaped road signs point towards Bonate, Berchidda and Olbia, transforming personal geography into part of the composition.
Every object was selected, adapted and integrated in dialogue with the family’s story. Mediterranean Ride is not simply a portrait of its subjects, but a portrait of the relationships, journeys and places that connect them.

BEYOND THE PAINTED SURFACE
The sculptural elements of Mediterranean Ride project beyond the painted image, turning motorcycles, scooters and personal details into a physical presence.
Reclaimed objects collected from beaches and urban environments are removed from their previous functions and incorporated into the family’s shared journey. Through this transformation, discarded materials acquire new meaning without losing the traces of their earlier lives.

REWRITING DIRECTIONS
The directional signs were not fabricated as decorative replicas. They were created from decommissioned road signs recovered and manually reshaped by Scoobafish.
Heated, bent and reconstructed, they no longer regulate public movement. Instead, they point towards Bonate, Berchidda and Olbia: real places connected to the people portrayed in the work.
The language of traffic becomes a map of personal memory.

Mediterranean Ride was created as a unique response to one family, its journeys and the space in which the artwork would live.
New commissions are developed through dialogue with the client and may incorporate personal narratives, places, objects and reclaimed materials. Each work remains unique and is conceived specifically for its architectural setting.
