FROM IMAGE TO LETTER
Picasso Inspired Letters is a series of four physical letters — A, B, E and P — constructed from reclaimed materials and found objects. Created in 2019, each assemblage translates a visual element associated with Picasso’s work into a sculptural typographic form.
Picasso Inspired Letters is a series of four physical letters — A, B, E and P — constructed from reclaimed materials and found objects. Created in 2019, each assemblage translates a visual element associated with Picasso’s work into a sculptural typographic form.
The letter A draws upon the fragmented features of his portraits; B responds to the figure of the harlequin; E takes its tension from the horse in Guernica; and P reinterprets the profile and objects found in Black Jug and Skull. Rather than reproducing the original artworks, the letters isolate shapes, gestures and contrasts before rebuilding them through discarded matter.
Once photographed, the four sculptures were incorporated into graphic compositions including Pablo, Cubism, Guernica and Picasso. The project moves between physical assemblage and typography, allowing each letter to function simultaneously as an object, an image and part of a written word.
