Rotten presents decay as an active process rather than a final condition. White and green mould spreads across the fruit, gradually consuming its orange surface until freshness survives only as a narrowing trace along the edge.

The sculpture is built from a decommissioned traffic sign, a material that cannot biologically decompose yet is made to appear overtaken by organic growth. Pigment creates the spreading stains and discolouration, while translucent resin freezes this temporary stage of transformation and gives the mould an unsettling physical presence.
