The Tangerine transforms a decommissioned traffic sign into an ambiguous citrus fruit while preserving the violence already embedded in the material. The holes piercing its orange surface are genuine bullet holes, left when the original road sign was used as a target.
Rather than repairing or concealing this damage, Scoobafish incorporates it into the sculpture as part of the object’s history. A sheet of aluminium folds away from one side like torn peel, while an elongated metal stem gives the fruit an improbable, character-like presence. In one photographic interaction, a human eye appears through a bullet hole, turning a trace of aggression into an unexpected point of contact between artwork and viewer.
